Patrick draws on this fifty year+ profound interest in Art History to influence his photography. He is noted for his use of vintage cameras and film and approaches photography as an artist. He has completed numerous private commissions and has been commissioned to provide his photographs on a grand scale for permanent exhibitions at, for example, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, Exchange Square Tower 2, Central, Hong Kong (examples of the elements Earth and Fire, attached), and the United Services Recreation Club, (se the PDF 'Me & Norma Ackroyd' attached) as well as a pop-up exhibition drawing from his 800+ unique archive of black and white street photography of Beijing and Datong using a Rolleiflex-type camera from the summer and autumn of 1986. “The 1980s were a prelude to the China we know now. That perspective gives an immense poignancy to Patrick M Dransfield’s outstanding collection of photographs from China in 1986… We are all the luckier for seeing them through the deeply empathetic lens that Patrick brought to Beijing in 1986.”
Rana Mitter OBE FBA, US-Asia Relations Chair at Harvard Kennedy School, USA.
“Patrick Dransfield is an active participant as well as a recorder of the modernization of China. We Chinese should thank Patrick for what he recorded for posterity in 1986, and remember who we were, and are.”
Xiao (Robert) Chen, partner of DeHeng law firm, resident in Beijing.
A 'Pop-Up' exhibition of Patrick's 'Track of Time - Moments of Transition' China 1986 photographs is possible to commission - please contact Patrick directly.
